There are no "good" soldiers. No good doctors, no good nurses, no good lawyers, no good politicians, no good "influencers," no good reporters, no good journalists, no good police, no good anyone in any position of wealth, influence or otherwise power. All the "good" ones quit when they realize they aren't doing good or they're quietly assassinated.

If you can join during peace time, which hasn't been a thing for almost 30 years now, it can be a good thing depemding on the individual. Learn discipline, forcedto be on your own, save money, tons of benefits for when you get out (GI Bill and VA home loan) and learn weapons and tactics you cant learn anywhere else that can benefit you and others you choose to help or lead. Right now though no fucking way.

Even if we were in peace time, would the benefit outweigh the risk of possible war at any moment?

Depends on the individual imo. If you're poor and there's little opportunity in your area, then yes. Otherwise I would lean no.

My father in law was in the navy back in thr 80s, it worked out good for him. Seems like he mostly just got paid to travel the world. Stayed in until he retired now he collects pension.
