100 years ago people did not freely travel nor consume as much as they do today - you are gaslighting the comparatives. People did not freely take a flight from Los Angeles to Paris as if a casual commute with the family. People did not regularly buy a new car or stove or .. the quantity requirements were vastly more moderate.

False. Around the 1910s you could cross the Atlantic in a luxury liner in about 4 days for around $2000 (in modern value dollars) so people did travel
