I would argue you only need up to 4th grade to weed the idiots who would be better suited for manual labor out.

That's small minded thinking. If you only have idiots doing manual labour, what will you do when your roof inevitably leaks? Use your computers skills to fix it?

We need people who are good at actually doing things and, I agree, we may as well separate them out from the general school populace early on because they need totally different skill sets.

Office workers need to learn how to set still for hours and deal with coworkers in a way that doesn't hurt any feelings. Construction workers need to learn how to work for 12 hours straight, six days a week, in the hot sun without dying. It only makes sense that there are different programs for the two.

I work construction and have a long time. Even if I have a laborer on my job site, there is a baseline of skill I need out of them. Now days you'd be surprised by the amount of people I get that can't read a tape even.
