I always hated having to explain why art is beautiful in my classes, advocating for my own art and my decisions in the whole process of creating it. Yes, you can explain hierarchy, texture, form, etc. and it was always a good exercise for recognizing what good art needs. But walking into an art museum and seeing an almost 10 ft tall oil painting of Prometheus Bound… you just want to stare in awe. You don’t want to hear why it’s good. You just want to look at it and just enjoy the experience.
The black statue is so ugly that it's taunting the observer. She literally stands over the observer, looking down upon you, like some turd--incapable of doing something about it.
i didn't know what to make of the classicals after converting, but having watched some lectures from Fr Dr Matt Johnson and having heard it said that "paganism" isn't a religion but merely native customs to be incorporated into the church and into Christ-faith i can once again marble at their magnificence. Pardon the pun-ic.
guess which art-form had little to no people gazing longily into the paints (hint hint, it was the garbage made by 20th-21st century faggots)
