Pardon my ignorance.

Is it a secret sect of Christendom activated/called upon in dark times?

Is it a different version of Christianity? Is it a militant form of Christendom?

I just don't really know what it is or it's true purpose. I know the lore around Vlad and such, but am unsure I can divorce it from all the fictitious garbage out there.
