I'm hesitant to believe that just because the news said so, considering how nearly everything they say is a lie or misleading in some way or another. Maybe a handful of instances were blown out of proportion to try and demonize an entire country for political reasons. Who knows. Have you done the actual analysis to determine this or are you just repeating what the news said?

i think your framing is disingenuous at best. *maybe* being cancelled for wrongthink if you have the misfortune to go viral (remember, if you randomly stumble onto something online, it took days of effort from many news agencies to proliferate it far enough) does not compare to the very real totalitarian grip the chinese govt has on its citizenry. in the US you could very well go around without a mask and whatever and all you'd get is some uppity security guards shooing you out of grocery stores. at no point did hazmat-wearing state mercenaries shove you into your apartment building and weld you inside like the many videos from china clearly showed, long before video gen AI was half as good as it had to be to fake it (and it still isn't).
i know it's tempting to think that maybe some place in the world is still sane or that the old ancient chinese confucius wisdom can somehow save us, but it's just not the case. china is a hellhole with complete disregard for life, limb, and dignity, and you can prove it in fewer than 5 videos watched of how they treat those three.
