You ever notice how if you lend someone money and they don’t pay you back so you finally ask them about the money you loaned them and when they’ll pay it back - often times they end up getting mad at you for daring to ask for the money they owe you. I feel like it’s basically the same thing.
Same thing when you offer to help someone. You help them and if at some point you want to stop, you’re now the bad guy. No matter how much time you gave them for free, that’s all ancient history, what matters is you’re now stopping and so now you’re the asshole.
Honestly same thing with relationships. If someone feels like they’ve extended their good graces to you, either by trying harder to be your friend than you did, or with romantic feelings, if you don’t reciprocate the feelings, it’s not just a “oh okay that’s fine” situation, it’s a “oh okay fuck you then we’re enemies for life now.”
I would say this general theme is the biggest reason why I’m anti-social. The more you live the more you see this phenomena and for me it became just a “man people really are just self absorbed assholes” thing.
