A story about a murder that happened were I live popped up in my feed I remember there manhunt but didn’t know the details so I listened to it. I had heard woman are addicted to true crime stories, so I decided to check the comments at least the first 50 or so that had pictures were woman, the ones without a PFP thumbnail all had pink or purple badge, a few may have been fags or anime fans (fags) I saw a couple bots with random names but no men. What’s the reason for this? The internet had several reasons, but these are sugar coated excuses that boil down to empathy. Woman are quick to violence, entitled, vindictive, and lack accountability, so the mainstream theory doesn’t hold water. Thoughts.

It started with men, but women are a step behind men. It's the human desire to satisfy morbid curiosity at play here less than female nature I would presume. Everyone has morbid curiosity, women aren't any different. It's a survival mechanism to learn about potential threats. This can range from watching cartel gore videos on liveleak to being curious about someone's personal drama.

The medium and the subject matter are slightly different. Women are (generally) more interested in mainstream true crime stories published by mainstream sources.

There's still a huge following for true crime (and related genres) among men, but it has become more focused on the obscure and gruesome. Or on internet focused "true crime" mysteries. I took the time to look at a popular YouTube channel on the topic (obscure or internet related crime) and looked at their most recent video, almost all of the comments are obviously made by men. I went again, looked up "true crime" and clicked on one of the first videos I saw. Fairly mainstream. Mostly female comments.

I think this is it. Everyone is interested in crime stories. Women are interested in "true crime" because of the social and emotional aspects. Men are interested in obscure crime stories, cold cases, mysteries, etc, because of curiousity and the pursuit of knowledge.
