I went to Foursquare churches in my youth, so naturally I start there, but really, you need to vet any church before you invest. Churchianity is the predominant sect of "Christianity" today, and they do *not* worship Jesus, if you know what I mean.

So, some things to look for:

1. *Any* women in positions of authority over men. Automatic no-go.

2. Exclusively biblical teachings from a non-pozzed version. NKV is my preferred translation.

3. Any discussion of Jews as the current chosen of God. This is fundamentally false doctrine, as the coming of Jesus *fulfilled* the first Covenant of the Old Testament, and instituted a 2nd, *new* Covenant allowing *all* of us to be God's Chosen, through the blood of Jesus.

Well, there's the Very Lutheran Project that's working on what they call the Catacomb Synod. Basically actually Based church at home (aka House Church [which has been running for a few years now]) and meetup church at an agreed upon place (Frontline Church [which they're just starting this year]). It's growing around the country and set to get bigger as they're reaching out to activist groups/Active clubs to offer training to one of their group members to become a Chaplain to then in turn help those guys find The Lord.

Not that they're a replacement for actual church but the Stone Choir guys have some really great insights into scripture as well as other every day topics. I can't praise them highly enough.

Their latest series on the Septuagint is pretty fascinating and I'm quite enjoying it but I'd advise that you keep in mind it's important not to get wrapped around the axle too much regarding translations. If all you have is an ESV bible you'll get to Heaven just the same as any other.

The New Independent Fundamentalist Baptist movement is great. If you can't find a local church, you can at least watch their sermons online.

When you understand the arguments and truthfully consider them, you will come to the conclusion that Confessional Lutheranism has the purest doctrine and the most legitimate claim to an unbroken line from Christ and the apostles.

Unfortunately, we live in an era where good churches are hard to find. See if there is a WELS, ELS, or LCMS church body near you. May God guide you.

Presbyterian Church of America (PCA) (not PCUSA) has denounced Zionism and Dispensationalism.

The "icons and pomp" are called worship, the thing that belongs to God. If you can get beyond that, you will find a richness of faith beyond compare.

As for books, I would recommend The Faith of the Early Fathers by William Jurgens

I don't know that you're going to find a Church local to you that is willing to name the jew. What you can find is Churches local to you that do not support gay marriages or any LGBT clergy whatsoever. You can screen prospective Churches near you on both issues by asking DDG ai or Brave ai in a way that is ambiguous, meaning phrase it in a way where it thinks you might be gay and/or concerned for your safety. If ai thinks you want to avoid gay Churches, it very likely could lie to you on purpose (you bigot)!

What is harder to find is Churches that are actively, or openly anti-LGBT. They exist, but it's going to depend on your area. You're probably not going to find one in NY, LA, Chicago, etc. But if you're in rural West Virginia, or Tennessee, or Oklahoma, or somewhere similar you've got about a 1 in 4 chance of stumbling into one.

The Bible, especially The New Testament, because Jesus disputes a lot of the Pharisees, which was vaguely based on customs and practices from The Old Testament. That being said, don't ignore The Old Testament entirely, the groundwork or reasoning for a lot of what The New Testament says about jews and the Synagogue of Satan is mostly laid in The Old Testament.

As far as the Bible version. Get something easy to read. Some people like the KJV but I don't. I'd rather read the Greek or Hebrew translated to modern English so I can think about the message I've just read rather than concentrating on translating the Old English dialect to modern English to grasp what I read.

However there is plenty of subversion in different versions. So read some key passages in the different versions before you decide.

For example,

> *Don’t have sex with a man as one does with a woman. That is abhorrent.* — Leviticus 18:22, MSG
>
> *You are not to lie with a man, as with a woman—that is an abomination.* — Leviticus 18:22, TLV

In NLT for instance, *"Do not practice homosexuality"* because *"it is a detestable sin"*. Pretty damn clear in my opinion. In others it's reduced to *"shall not lie with a man"* or *"you are not to lie with a man"* because it's *"a detestable practice"* or *"it is abhorrent"*.

Some of those Bible versions were written specifically by gay churches. Metropolitan Community Churches (a gay denomination) specifically uses only one Bible version and discussing other versions is prohibited.

Personally, I prefer my Bible to call a spade a spade, in a version of English that I use myself.
