lmao seriously, literally the first boatload of pilgrims were Protestants. They hated the Church of England because having the monarch as the head of the Church and a hierarchy of bishops was seen as basically being the exact same arrangement the Pope had, which was the exact grievances Martin Luther nailed to a door.
