I'm kind of for legalizing all drugs, slowly, while also putting in place societal infrastructure for discouraging the abuse of drugs and to help people who become addicts.
I can elaborate on further reasons for legalization of drugs if requested; it is not however a top priority to me as a policy issue so I don't focus on it as much for that reason.
What do you think about drug legalization or criminalization?
I think it's important to have free access to medicine, and not wise for us to currently have meds locked away from the average person and only available by doctor prescription. Many of the natural substances that are made in to artificial drugs seem to have some medicinal value, like coca is used for altitude sickness I think (which is made in to cocaine), and opium for painkillers (which is made in to heroin / or poppy plants). We should be able to grow and consume such products responsibly.
I also think we should live in an adult society that prioritizes personal responsibility and freedom to make such mistakes (like becoming addicted) over paternalistic restrictions in this case. Like, I doubt you are going to do heroin tomorrow if it's legal, so it seems like it would be fine for a lot of people to legalize drugs entirely.
