I'm not making excuses for this guy, but it's possible to be lost in your youth and believe in some stupid shit, especially growing up in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's.
My journey to arrive at NatSoc is one of the most roundabout, strange and inefficient ways to to acquire and believe in a vision. No guidance means you hit a lot of land mines.
There is some merit in being a free minded thinker and not bound by the constraints of religion, especially when it's being used against you (as Christianity has, especially in Europe), but it's like wearing a Swastika and expecting people to understand.
