The biggest factor, by far, in the population surge of the 20th century is the old no longer die.

Where we used to have 2-3 generations living at the same time, it's now 4-5. This is possible *only* due to Western innovations like "not drinking your own faeces" and "eating food instead of mud".

This is what we get for violating the Prime Directive and (((developing))) races that couldn't do it alone.
