Not just 9mm, handgun wounds in general are usually survivable if you get medical attention quickly. A pistol isn't a magic wand firing instant death rays like hollywood shows. It'll stop a threat at close range, but if you want to make it permanent then you'll have better odds using a rifle or shotgun.
