Why scream? If the shell hits you, then you are dead before you can flinch. The fact you see or hear it explode means you survived. Even if you flinch, your eyelids won't stop shrapnel.

That's why the war-hardened don't duck at every boom sound.

Theoretically it can land adjacent to you such that you are hideously wounded by flying debris causing you extreme pain and/or horror as you realize you have been irrrversibly maimed and might yet die in the near future.
