I do believe that jails are counter-productive. It sends the wrong message. The punishment for stealing is restitution. If you can't make restitution, then slavery until you do. The punishment for murder and violence and rape is death. It's really not that hard. Under no circumstances should the punishment be two hots and a cot.
Then jews said physical labor was cruel and unusual, so jail stopped being work.

You commit a crime -- you get shot.
If you surrender before they start shooting, then you get dragged before a judge by an angry mob. 10 minutes later the jury makes their decision. Either you get hung or you are set free and required to pay restitution. That's what the FF meant by "speedy trial."
Jails serve no purpose at all. It's all setup to make lawyers and judges bazillions milking the government teat providing "justice". In reality, justice is shooting a violent criminal in the head.
