Russia *gave* that land away in exchange for not being completely wiped off the globe when they collapsed 40 years ago. It's not Russia's land to police or have say in.

They would not get wiped out. They already gave up all of eastern europe and they never gave ukraine to anyone.

Kievan rus is russias ancestor, ukraine is not a random piece of land in africa with no connection to russia.
