> TICD is a partnership with Stockbridge Capital Group, Wilson Meany, and Lennar Corporation. The three developers are overseeing the roughly $6 billion redevelopment of Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island with housing. Plans include new construction and the adaptive reuse of existing structures to produce retail, hotels, and offices surrounded by new public open space.
They say "public" buy what they mean is "public" to those authorized to be there. Eventually, they'll announce that you need a residence permit to park anywhere, and getting onto the island will include a $50 toll fee unless you have said permit. Everybody knows exactly what's going on here.
Isn't it ironic, though? SanFran built Alcatraz to contain the worst elements away from the city, now the wealthy are containing themselves to an island to avoid the filth that's taken over the city. The island even has its own power station, marina, and some open land that can be used for farming. Hmm.
That’s just them expanding housing for the demand. Most of SF is actually really, really nice. The bad parts are extremely isolated, and those ‘poop map’ things are made up. The way it’s run is still shit and the prices are all bonkers and plenty of the folks living there were driven out by yuppies and wealthy elites and gays, but the city itself is actually still really nice.
