Suicide, by legal definition, is the act of attempting to kill yourself. Not what it's conflated to be.

Suicides can, therefore, be successful or fail. So, to "die by suicide" is a grammatically correct statement.

That's not the definition I know. Suicide is the intentional killing of one's self. They committed suicide.
