That's a serious sociological inquiry. Unfortunately, finding serious research is also hard because no working academic wants to say anything "unkosher" about blacks, their ability to run a business, or their true feelings about supporting black-owned business. I think what nobody wants to say is that blacks, indeed, have a crabs-in-a-bucket mindset where they resent seeing another black person climbing the ladder. They express that resentment in many ways, but some blacks are rather open about not trusting other blacks with their careers or finances. "It's always your own people" is a common expression of disappointment among blacks, for example.
If I’m remembering correctly both Charles Barkley, and Terry Cruz have openly spoken about this. I think Shaq has touched on it or at least agreed also.
