holy fuck you're slow. they do it because it works better than the alternative. you think jews pilpul because it doesn't work? of course not... they do it because it works.

think 5+ steps ahead from his perspective. what does he stand to gain by overtly saying it? nothing. what does he stand to lose by answering? a lot. and when you push for an answer and they refuse, to the average onlooker makes you look like you're attacking them, not that they're being evasive.
