They would have been anti-West regardless because of the way that the Ottoman Empire was carved up after WWI. And that isn't really because the UK and France did anything wrong; It's because the Turks had the Arabs and Levantines under control. Before the Ottomans took over, the Middle East was a violent mess for centuries. It's only ever not a violent mess when someone has complete control, like the original caliphates, or the Ottomans, or Saddam, or the Saudis. Muslims are incapable of living peacefully in a free society.
