Drum beats that change chaotically aren't unheard of in jazz whatsoever. Sometimes the rhythm is completely incoherent, such as here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGRHCdtzYOk Then again I hate this song and late Coltrane as a whole. He was probably onto something; something not very good.
