the job is obsolete now, much like many others have been and infinitely more will be.
it's so easy and convenient to selfcheckout, the cashiers are redundant because of how precise and fast the laser barcode reader is. There's still a need for a supervisor per 10 in case something goes wrong but that's about it.
There are new systems in place where you have your own portable scanner gun and you scan the product as you put it in your basket then at checkout you simply pay and don't have to scan anything.
There are also tests on 360 scans shopping carts where the product gets scanned as you put it inside the cart. then you pay at checkout and you're off.
Obviously this works if there are no niggers or other shit races to game the system.
I live in Bucharest which is considered a "shit country" but it's 95% and we have self checkout. I go in and out in under 5 minutes, 0 waiting time.
Morally there should be a discount for selfcheckout but realistically no corporation will do this because we live in a shit capitalist system.
The small stores with low customer count won't be getting self checkout anyway.
I like it because I get to pack my bag the way I want without playing tetris at the checkout with a queue of people behind me.
