The really interesting thing I learned is that the Dutch arrived in South Africa *before* the Bantus, the largest group of blacks there. There were small tribes of Khoisan here and there, but why does the majority of the black hoard get to be called "native" and not the Afrikaners? Just because the Bantus came from other parts of Africa? What difference does that make?

This is also true for the Nords and Inuits in Greenland. Vikings got there either slightly before or at the same time as Inuits, yet people call the Danish living there foreign colonizers.
