The bank has to disburse the funds somehow though when the account is closed, whether it's cash, check etc. The funds just don't go "poof". I know it's all funny money but I'm looking for an instance where that happened. There are plenty of people who are "de-banked" but still have money. In my understanding the main issue was that the removal from the payment transaction and banking systems made it extremely difficult to do anything in modern society. You have the money but without a bank or credit card, your payment options outside of handing over a was of cash were severely curtailed.
