19th century racism comes from midevil catholic blood purity doctrine. Classics don't have to be about race either, knowing how to think and thinking more like the ancients whose wisdom lead to more success makes those things obvious.

race mixing or even mixing outside your kin ( neighbor town being too far in some places like england ) was well established. You are just reading the rediscovery by protestants who had abandoned all things Catholic especially wehn they allied with muslims to attack europe
