You can't stick your finger in the wound, just press hard enough near it. For example, "Remind me how sending money oversees is 'winning' again?" or "How does foreign politicians telling 'our' politicians what to do make us stronger?" You can't say what the problem is, you have to just point at the problem and ask them to explain/ justify it to you.
