People refuse to realize that Uber/ Lyft make more money off them. There's a little thing called a "corporate externality" -- things external to the costs borne by the company. For example, Uber isn't paying to maintain a fleet of vehicles (fuel, insurance, oil changes, tire changes, depreciation, etc.)
AALLL those expenses fall on you, and you're supposed to pay for all that maintenance *and* still pay your bills with an average of $5 per ride? People see the small pile of cash they get and forget they spent 1/3 of that money on gas driving all over town *before* they've been taxed. If people knew how to itemize their expenses like a real business, they'd realize that some -- maybe even most -- are *LOSING* money doing Uber/ Lyft. Those companies are built on desperate, ignorant people.
