Any platform that wants to tote "free speech" will always have to battle the pedo flood. If I had to write a ToS for a free speech platform it would basically say "pedos and pajeets will be doxxed immediately."
I had a buddy do a moderation gig for a year. He told me some horror stories. It destroys your soul having to identify that content. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Because Mastodon is decentralized, we could theoretically run our own Mastodon servers where the rules are "don't be a pedo" (CP is said to be rampant on the network).
Most of the servers out there are run by leftists, so our servers would be cut off from most of it, but that could change if enough people with a different mindset ran Mastodon servers. It could even be forked and given a good search function. It currently deliberately doesn't have a search feature because the pedos were afraid it would be used by cops to find them.

I just hope I live long enough to see ***ANY*** platform/service where the TOS/rules during signup are basically just, "*say whatever you will, but be prepared to also accept any judgement or real-life consequences that may be dealt to you by this community for doing so*." Like, 'go ahead and say whatever you want. But if you piss enough people here off, your rank will drop so hard and your posts/comments will get buried so deep that probably no one will ever see them. And if you cross the wrong people, they might even be clever enough to find/share your personal info, and you'll get the shit kicked out of you in meatspace too!'
