It's more divide and conquer bullshit. They, Himmler especially, engaged in some pagan reconstruction and researched that time period as a way of learning about their forebears. As a movement they were likely christian, though there may have been some pagans or agnostics of course, not too dissimilar to communities like ours.

The (((narrative))) is of course the real history flipped on its head.
