the anus is not made for penetration. it's not self lubricating and even small things in it cause microtears. these microtears easily allow viruses and bacteria to be transmitted, which is why the STD transmission rate is extremely high in anal. receiving is more dangerous than pitching, but it's not safe either way.
coincidentally, the top 3 causes of death for gay men, in no particular order...
* fatal complications from STDs... sky fucking high. in many communities, especially SF, it's over 90%.
* suicide, because a lot of them have mental and emotional health issues.
* homicide, but not from straight people. in every demographic, people are most murdered, by far, by people in their own demographic. this is because people tend to hang out with others from their own demographic. for gays, that means the chances being killed by another LGBT is not negligible, and significantly higher than the likelihood of being murdered by a straight person.
