Sorry, I thought God picked the Pope *through* the cardinals? If they were potentially corruptible then the entire Church is just another corrupt hierarchy...
Just like how most of the Popes in history have been Italian, the next Pope being Filipino or Ghanan is going to be the result of many worldly factors. That doesn't de-legitimize the office in any way
I mean, God allows corrupt men to gain power if the rest of the laity is also corrupt.
Spoiler alert, the amount of self-proclaimed "Catholics" that even bother to do their weekly obligation to get to mass on a sunday or saturday evening is in the minority. I can hope God gives us a Pope that will whip the laity back into shape, but He's just as likely to allow someone who will appear to disband the Church into the Papacy, and then start over after nuking humanity again.

The papcy has been compromised for centuries at this point, but they really ramped it up once instant global communication was possible. WWII was the death knell for adherence to the scriptures.
Honestly, if a black does get the Papacy, it had better be Cardinal Sarah. Simply because it would be amusing watching all the modernists get excommunicated by a black man after thinking they had "modernized" the Church.
