There's also the Pareto principle (80/20 rule). It's applicable to populations in this context, where very few people are capable of independent thought and going against the herd, whereas most people blindly follow the herd, regardless of where it goes, even straight off a cliff. It can be difficult, to borderline impossible, for blind followers to break free from conditioning and manufactured consensus.
