It literally already went on for multiple billions of years, and it will go on for another billions of years, way past the extinction of humanity. That's pretty close to the concept of infinity.
I even have my personal theories which disagree with some of common theories like Dark Matter and Expansion of Space. I also understand that many of these scientists are in well paid daycare paid by tax money by people who do actual work that is in demand.
