Isreal doesn't even want to free the hostages because that means they have to stop the campaign.

The hostages are probably all dead by now anyway. Both sides are pretending there are hostages. Fake war.

Short wars don't get many donations. If we cut all funding to both sides they will immediately find peace.

Thus, a proxy war.
