how to read. being able to quote passages from a book is not admirable. It's retard-tier. you must understand, think critically about what you are reading, and be able to explain the assertions the author is making in a wider context.

you gain this wider context by fact-checking the author. by reading external sources on the subject matter and knowing what the author _is not presenting_ along with the validity of the facts they do present.

By recognizing and understanding the logical flow of the author's text using correct, foundational logical reasoning. That means the 16 laws of basic axiomatic + predicate logic. That's a reference to the philosophy of logic which forms the bedrock foundation of mathematics, physics, and yes, reading like you are not a retard.

Highlight the text. Take notes. Form a book club. Talk to others about the subject, the author, the text.

Or go watch Severance and masturbate. Whatever.

I don't think memorizing quotes is retard-tier.

Repetition and the firmament of a quote from someone one respects can be power.

But, I agree with everything else you wrote. And lament that others do not have these views.

There is a huge differenve between speed-reading five books a week and spending a week working through one challenging book.

I'll read easy stuff before bed to help me get to sleep, but hard stuff during the day when my brain is fully awake.

The "don't read too much" is because a lot of books aren't even worth reading and the ideas in them can be condensed into a pamphlet instead of a 500 page tome.

that is what I was thinking. I read tonnes because I listen to audiobooks at work and almost all of it is time tested classics. Most of my peers on amount of reeding read modern goyslop stuff and they are no different than tv watchers except maybe slightly more discipline
