German isn't even that bad to learn. It was kinda fun to see where a bunch of weird one off terms from English come from.

Like gang plank. It's a passageway off a ship. Gang means passageway.

Brand is related to fire and it makes sense one would 'brand' their cattle and from that came to mean a mark of distinction for marketing purposes.

Not just one-offs, the entire fucking language. If you compare old English to Frisian, (sometimes) Danish, or Dutch, you can pretty quickly peace together how we figured out where English people came from (The Angles, a part of low lying land in Northern Germany up to the Netherlands and Denmark.)

Even the French origin words are heavily germanicized (And French is pretty celticized for a romance language!), meaning that British people are what happens when a Dane and a Gaul have a kid
