In-group preference is objectively good because its the most basic form of Charity, of course it can be taken to extremes where it becomes a bad thing and no longer charitable, for example nepotism in jews and jeets.

Holding others to high standards is the other side of the charity coin; you don't actually help people by enabling bad or weak behaviours.

It's impossible to hold others outside your in-group to your standards, which is why charity to out-groups (telescopic charity) never actually helps.
