Franco was just an opportunist and pretty milquetoast, mainstream conservative politician. Hell, he was mainstream enough that the party he supported was actually *in charge of* the Spanish republic for a period. He just took control over the Falange at a convenient time. He allowed jews to flee Germany into Spain and spanish society was hardly any more right wing during a majority of his reign than it was anywhere else. Jose Rivera was far superior. Franco was effectively just a dictatorial Ronald Reagan. The best thing about him was his foreign policy, and to this day spains foreign policy generally runs contrary to almost every other western nation. And i said generally. Spain did cuck out during the Iraq war though. But spains refusal to acknowledge Kosovo is pretty based, and spain is more vocally hostile to Israel than most.
He did make spain a better place to live in after ww2. But with that economic boom, if you weren't an axis nation, you'd have to be a tremendous fuck up to *not* make your nation a better place to live in after ww2. Even the soviet union became a much better place to live in after ww2.
