Not really. Dumping money into a fund while it’s losing money is the opposite of what anyone should be doing.

It seems that way at first. I don't need a 401k but it's just another thing to invest in. I watched the thing lose more and more money for a year before going to complete opposite direction.

Yes and no. You're still buying shares. The more the market sinks, the more your money buys. So when it rebounds you make more off of it.
