I fully admit that paganism makes zero sense.
There is no way that Zeus and Wodin would not be pissed that they are being worshipped by the same pagans at the same time, just like how someone who worships Jesus and Satan at the same time will be hated by both.

Of course, no one claiming to be a pagan nowadays knows what it was either.
The strongest hint you'll ever get: Within a generation of Christian monks showing up in a pagan community, the entire community would become Christian. The spread of Christianity in Europe happened very fast and within a few hundred years practically everyone was converted. The hold-outs were holding out simply because they were remote. It took some more time but it wasn't long until they were all converted.
The so-called crusades were almost exclusively retaliatory. I really can't think of any offensive Christian military action up through the Middle Ages that wasn't a response to an aggressive act.
