And, furthermore, the US did actually physically exterminate germans. It wasn't just a soft genocide, it's a bit of both.
Georgy Zhukov kept the eastern germans more well fed than Eisenhower did, with less food than America had. Eisenhower intentionally starved west Germany so badly that after a few years there was a genuine risk of a large scale revolt and the entire country becoming communist.
Thus the Marshall plan replaced the morgenthau plan. Out of necessity, not because america wanted to. Close to 2 million germans were starved to death in eisenhowers camps. All while they were sending a fuck load of extra provisions to the eastern side, which was already getting more food, just for political posturing and propaganda purposes.
Ironically, if the political pressure from communism didn't exist, Eisenhower would have made Germany perish for good.
