I think it was either in the US or Great Britain that it was found out there was literally a government task force doing exactly that. Possibly both. Also, its a complete misunderstanding of the entire concept of forgiveness *requiring* actual repentance and a desire to make amends for the crime. (and also a misunderstanding of murder, since its not just a crime against the person being killed, but also against God because taking and giving life is His domain, the only legitimate reason a man may deliberately take a life is as punishment for a heinous crime or in times of war). If a murderer was actually truly penitent and wanted to amend for his crime, he would either seek the death penalty or devote the rest of his life in an attempt to make up for his crime.
