I've experimented with using the desire to compel action. For instance, I will abstain from relations with my wife until I find a job, or make a sale, or some other short term goal aligned with my long term objectives.
Americans are over-sexed in general, and it's been that way for hundreds of years. Most societies were never so promiscuous.
