You don't know much about ancient history if you are surprised by temple prostitution. It was a wide-spread practice throughout the ancient world. It's why the children of Israel were SPECIFICALLY warned against it, and the punishment was death.

I believe Rome eliminated temple prostitution more or less. They still had rampant prostitution, though.

The Maccabee revolt was directed against the Greek practices being adopted in Jerusalem including defilement of the temple. That likely included prostitution, even if it is not specifically mentioned in historical records.
