Age doesnt matter as much for men, because we dont ever stop producing gametes. Women do, and the quality of their gametes vastly degrades over time. Historically speaking, thats why you saw quite large age gaps.

A good friend of mine got married at 43 to a woman 20 years younger than him. They now have two little children. His dad got married in his fifties to a much younger woman and they also had 2 children.
