Most of South America welcomed the conquistadores and worked with them willingly because the Aztec rulers were getting increasingly insane and brutal.

100 percent correct. Bernal Diaz del Castillo talks about this extensively in the book he wrote of his first hand account of fighting under Cortez in Mexico. He described how Montezuma's favorite meal was the roasted arms of little boys. There is a reason the Spanish went through the effort to literally tear the city down stone by stone.
