Thank you. I just looked up the Maccabees, I never heard of them before and I'm Catholic. I lean towards reading the New Testiment over the Old. There's so much I don't know about both. But the answers are there.

The Church of the Old Testament is the same as the New, just without as many gentiles grafted on (but even during the OT, gentiles did join). Thats why all the OT books are still in the bible, God does not change. The only thing from the OT not to be imitated (besides the things it obviously says not to imitate) are the feasts and levitical practices of the Old Hebrews, because those are superseded by the rites and feasts of the Universal Church.
