a resource will be rationed by some mechanism. always. skilled healthcare is a resource (a valuable one). if it is not rationed by price then it will be time (or who you know, or some other rationing mechanism). nothing is free.

no amount of calling a scarce resource a "basic human right" will bend the laws of reality.

give thanks that we are not yet rationing your air.

It can also degrade because actors determine that buyers will pay any price. US healthcare sucks because they would rather sell tests and pills than solutions.

They actually make more money from people being sick than them not being sick, and from selling things that suppress symptoms rather than eliminate the disease because its a guaranteed money supply.

The government also severely restricts who can make what ''medical act'', who can make and operate what diagnostic tool, who can sell what medication, thus removing competition and causing prices to skyrocket.
